Nigeria's art scene is rich and diverse, producing exceptional talent that captivates both local and international audiences. In no particular order here are five Nigerian fine artists I believe are making waves with their unique styles and compelling works.




1. Blessing Ejiroghene


Blessing Ejiroghene, hailing from Ughelli in Delta State, is a standout figurative and portrait sculptor. A graduate of the School of Arts, Design, and Printing at Yaba College of Technology, Ejiroghene is known for her meticulously detailed sculptures and busts that delve into human emotions and the mental prisons that ensnare us. Her works are a powerful exploration of the human condition, rendered with a precision that brings each piece to life.

2. Elizabeth Ekpetorson (Eleeze)


Elizabeth Ekpetorson, popularly known as Eleeze, creates captivating drawings and paintings that depict everyday life and the environment. Her art is notable for its angular lines and vibrant color palette, blending cubism and impressionism to emphasize self-acceptance. Through her nude figures and portraits, Eleeze reveals personalities beyond appearances, telling the stories of women who have been silenced or shamed. Her work celebrates humanity and empowers her subjects.

3. Samuel Nnorom (pictured in header)


Samuel Nnorom is a sculptor and multimedia artist known for his innovative use of Ankara textiles. His work explores the complex history and symbolism of this fabric, reappropriating it in contemporary art that resonates with his community. Nnorom's creations were prominently showcased at the Life in My City Art Festival in Enugu, and more recently he was an Artist in Residence at Black Rock Senegal which is an artist-in-residence program founded by acclaimed visual artist Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal,  marking him as a significant figure in Nigeria's art scene.
